Reflections on a Quiet Drive

It was during a drive out one night that I chanced upon this song. There’s something monochromatic about the song and the vocals are equally haunting. It makes me remember those dark days of my life when I thought I won’t be able to wake up from the many nightmarish events I went through. I had a close friend who met me post-Daddy and he asked me how did I get over the loss and I could only shrug my shoulders. I don’t know how I did what I did but I guess the presence of a loved one close by me with the vow that he’ll love me through all my beautiful and ugly days makes all the difference I needed.

Sometimes, all you need to do is to reach out a hand.

I’m sure, there will always be at least one person who will take your hand and pull you through.

Never give up on the power of faith.

To lose hope is akin to losing out on life.

Have a listen to my current favorite song, cheers to the fabulous week ahead!

Say Something by A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera

Counting Stars

Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I’ve been, I’ve been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We’ll be counting stars, yeah we’ll be counting stars

I see this life like a swinging vine
Swing my heart across the line
And my face is flashing signs
Seek it out and you shall find
Old, but I’m not that old
Young, but I’m not that bold
I don’t think the world is sold
I’m just doing what we’re told
I feel something so right
Doing the wrong thing
I feel something so wrong
Doing the right thing
I could lie, coudn’t I, could lie
Everything that kills me makes me feel alive

Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I’ve been, I’ve been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We’ll be counting stars

Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I’ve been, I’ve been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We’ll be, we’ll be counting stars

I feel the love and I feel it burn
Down this river, every turn
Hope is a four-letter word
Make that money, watch it burn
Old, but I’m not that old
Young, but I’m not that bold
I don’t think the world is sold
I’m just doing what we’re told
I feel something so wrong
Doing the right thing
I could lie, could lie, could lie
Everything that drowns me makes me wanna fly

Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I’ve been, I’ve been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We’ll be counting stars

Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I’ve been, I’ve been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We’ll be, we’ll be counting stars

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Everything that kills me makes feel alive

Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I’ve been, I’ve been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We’ll be counting stars

Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I’ve been, I’ve been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We’ll be, we’ll be, counting stars

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

The song is an inspiration. Ever since Daddy’s passing, I have been trying to find a go-to song and this song nailed it with the guitar bridge and the inspirational lyrics.

Somebody That I Used to Know

“You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end
Always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I’ll admit that I was glad that it was over”

We Are Young

By Fun featuring Janelle Monáe.

I was listening to Cannon’s Top 30 this weekend in the background while I was doing up my CV when I got hooked to the beats and slow lyrics. When I watched the video, it was equally interesting. The lyrics however won’t make much sense if you don’t listen intently but heck, it’s a good song to me so Enjoy!

🙂

What If

Sometimes I tend to have one of those nights whereby I go into deep reflective thoughts. Truthfully, I hate it the most when that happens solely because it will result in me having those quiet stoning moments whereby my thoughts are zooming by at lightning speed and I have no single idea that’s making concerete sense in the head. The worst part is that it’ll go on and on forever till I get too tired and fall asleep.

Some people call it writer’s block, I call it deja vu. I had one just awhile back when hubs sent me off and I honestly could picture the whole scene playing back in my mind a split-second before it all happen. What do you call that?

Strangely enough, I know I have this particular song by Jason Derulo that is somehow the song that my head is playing on repeat. Maybe that’s another sign?

On top of that, I just realised I didn’t have a proper dinner so that prolly added on to the weariness and deep thoughts. It’s freaking 0252 hours already, dafuq.!

So Yesterday

This is an old song, three years old to be precise but yes, it’s dedicated to McDonald’s Singapore. It’s apt much, no?

She Doesn’t Mind

I was driving on my (now frequent) driving escapades with Sunshine when I came across this particular Sean Paul number. I loved the beat and lyrics when I heard it for the first time on 91.3FM and the beat just got stuck with me throughout the entire day and a few days after that. However, I have to say I would’ve prefered if the video wasn’t made depicting a woman groping another woman as it somewhat gives me the assumption that the woman security officer is a bisexual or even a lesbian as she was prancing around and groping, undressing the lady passengers. It gets even more weird when you actually watch the behind-the-scenes. But anyway, the video could’ve been better but I’m not complaining much, I’ll just listen to the song and not watch the video as it leaves a sour note down my throat.

In Your Head

As expected, I am going to feature Mohombi’s new latest single, In Your Head. It is his version of The Cranberries’s Zombie but I can say it’s even more catchy and the lyrics are varied in the darker sense as compared to the original.

A Musical Inspiration

Perasan yang ingin ku abadikan,
Sejak diriku menganali dirimu sayang,
Pertama kali ku memandang matamu,
Hatiku dipanah kasihmu,
Senyumanmu, mencuit hatiku

Engkaulah pengubat piluku,
Kau menerangi segala kegelapanku,
Dan hanya engkau membawa keriangan dalam hidupku
Terima kasih, sayangku

Cintaku ini, cinta sejati,
Ku harap engkau dapat merasakannya sendiri,
Aku berdoa agar bahagia bersama,
Kerana kau ku sayang,
Yang bernama ‘Aliah

It was an honor to have a boyfriend write out a song for me back then when I was in secondary school. He didn’t nail the melody but it was sweet enough.

I guess it’s quite a blessing to date a msician back then.

Fast forward to 2010 – 2011, I dated another musician and little did I know, history was going to be repeating itself. But this time, the boyfriend got the lyrics and this time, he got the melody right. He created this song as written above, especially for me.

It was a sleeper hit for me as when I can’t sleep at night, he’ll dutifully sing me the lyrics to the song and make sure that is the last thing I hear at night and also the first thing I hear when I wake up in the morning. The words may mean nothing to him now but I have to thank him for during the period I was his girlfriend, he made me feel like I was the most cherished, most loved, most lucky girl on Earth.

Alas, he thinks I didn’t show him enough of my love. Funny, he’s not the first boy to say that to me but hey, I may not love you the way you love me but that is not to say I never loved you with all I have.

It is a tragedy that we’ve reached the point of absolutely zero reconciliation whether in terms of friendship; don’t even think about reconciling on romantic grounds as perhaps Fate was what got in the way. Also, maybe the clashing of egos since I have the ego of a man as what he claimed. Honestly, I would love to hear more songs inspired by his life & love. I may not be his muse anymore but as much as I regret losing out on a beautiful friendship after the break-down of a relationship, I thank Him for granting the memories with him.

It didn’t last beyond one year but should he ever wondered what he was to me, back then, he meant the world to me.

Thanks for the memories Big Bear, it was great knowing you and carving out some sweet and not-so sweet memories with you.

For it’s you who brought me to where I am now and I won’t change a single thing nor regret a single day spent with you.

Coconut Tree

And who knew you can make such a catchy song just by thinking of coconut trees? The song is madsexy, I wish I was Nicole Scherzinger! I can’t stop humming the beat for the last 24 hours already; I need to hunt his album before I go crazy!

Coconut Tree
by
Mohombi featuring Nicole Scherzinger

“Under the coconut tree, making love to you in a bed full of fantasy.
Usually I’ll be gone before the morning light,
but your eyes are telling me its not the case tonight.
You’re going to make me stay, make me stay, make me stay, forever.”

Mohombi Nzasi Moupondo

I’m madly in love with you and I want to own every single CD or single you release on the planet. He’s two years my senior and he’s born to a Swedish mother & Congolese father. Bonus, he speaks Swedish, French, English & Lingala.

La Dolce Vita!

I’ve found the perfect man,
and I want to marry him someday so that he’ll serenade me under a coconut tree every night.

Heh heh heh.

🙂

Suavemente

That’s Spanish for kiss me.

🙂

As you all already know, I am into Spanish and Latin music and I can’t help but include Mohombi as my favourite Latino boy for the moment! Why did I not discover him earlier is beyond me as he’s got such a raspy, sexy voice that any song he sings makes me want to groove and shake my body to his rhythm! That isn’t to say that is the only way his voice gives out an impact; when he sings his ballads, his vocal chords has the ability to make me feel whatever he’s singing.

Latino music has many inspriations from Reggaeton but I’m very pleased to say his music are of the minimal reggae beats and the lyrics are real nice. One of the first few which got me addicted is Suavemente by him and Nayer (From the Give Me Everything fame) and also features Pitbull.

There’s something absolutely gorgeous about his voice, that base-low voice that I can’t quite get enough of actually.

Well, before I go on a Mohombi-craze, allow me to introduce to you this song by him.

🙂

I think Nayer is super-hot; I have a girl-crush on her but seriously, she should’ve picked a better outfit as compared to the skin tight vinyl outfit with those strategic slashes. Perhaps a nicer beach outfit would easily make her a perfect match to Mohombi’s laid-back outfit.

🙂

PS: Mohombi’s got the dream guy character;
he’s tall, sexy as a bald man, looks gorgeous without even trying hard and has such an amazing singing voice!

I’m smitten and pardon me as I shall post more Mohombi songs in the future!

🙂 🙂

The One That Got Away

When I hear this song for the first time, it was evident that the song reminded me of a someone who is still in my inner circle of trust. He is one person I shared every single detail about and he will remain, until this day, as the one who took my breath and got away with it.

Set Fire to the Rain

Ironically, this is the only song I could think of when I think of you.

Sure, I would most definitely set you on fire if I could.

But then again, God is great.

I’m sure He will make you pay for your misdeeds and transgressions.
